Keller Williams (KW) Southwest Honors 7th Annual Brent Event With Hurricane Relief Support

KWSW agents join forces to honor Brent Weaver

with Houston Strong T-Shirt Campaign

SUGAR LAND, TX: In the spirit of their “Giving Where We Live” initiative, KW Southwest teams up with the Brent Event Foundation for the 3rd year to sponsor the event and help make the 7th Annual event a success.

After much debate, this year’s Brent Event in Sugar Land Memorial Park was cancelled due to Hurricane Harvey. “The trails are flooded and we’re not sure that the trails and grass areas will be ready and safe for a race and kids’ carnival.”

The 10k/5k/mile run/walk, originally scheduled for September 23rd, is cancelled and replaced with a “Houston Strong” t-shirt campaign. The Brent Event Foundation states, “We are saddened as we realize that many of you, as well as some of our key committee members, have had your homes destroyed and are focusing on getting your lives back together.”

The annual 10k/5k/mile run/walk and kids’ carnival raises money to help local cancer patients and their families. The event is organized and managed by family and friends of Brent Weaver, as well as an army of volunteers. 100% of the funds collected from sponsors, participants, and donors go directly to local cancer patients and their families to help ease their financial burdens while they battle cancer.

T-shirts will be available for purchase at $25 each with the front depicting the Houston skyline and the Houston Strong title as well as possibly a reference to Hurricane Harvey. The back will have the Brent Event logo along with additional sponsor logos. T-shirts are available for purchase on the http://BrentEvent.org or at the KW Southwest reception area.

About the Brent Event

The Brent Event was created to honor Brent Weaver, a lifelong resident of Sugar Land, Texas, who battled Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer. Brent grew up the eldest of five children and was newly married when he fine the disease. Brent loved the outdoors, physical activities and the Boy Scouts. He strongly believed in giving back to the community. Brent, a graduate of Brigham Young University, took a two-year break from his education to serve at a church mission in Guadalajara, Mexico.

After a long fight with cancer, which included chemotherapy, a leg amputation, and 2 lung surgeries, in 2011 Brent lost his fight to the disease. During his battle, he wanted to accomplish two things to help other people in his situation: write a book about his experiences and establish a foundation. He finished the book, “26 Rounds for Kelly,” a few weeks before his death. The foundation was established in his honor in 2012.

Organized in memory of Brent Weaver.  Their mission is to help ease the financial and emotional burden placed on cancer patients by providing funds that may be used for expenses that are not covered by insurance. To donate to the Brent Event Foundation, please visit www.brentevent.org.

Since its establishment, the foundation has held an annual “Brent Event” to raise money and has financially helped numerous cancer patients and their families.
